How important it is to build an email list
A good way to build an email database is to collect the addresses and develop a relationship. Then, provide the services and products they need.
Email lists allow you to create an audience around your products and services.
Building trust is key to building an audience base.
Building trust is all about “touches” Reliable and useful interactions that occur over time.
It’s about you and your customers getting to know each other:
You can discover what your customers want and how they prefer to be informed.
What you can offer them from their side and how skilled you are at it.
It’s about teaching your readers, your potential customers, to trust you as an expert on a certain topic so that when you have something to sell, they know who you are, and they trust that what you have to sell them is valuable.
Building an email list is powerful
People love spending money. People are more likely to purchase things from friends and family they like and trust.
To build a sustainable business, you must first build an email list.
Share good information to get people in your circle of influence. This will turn strangers into customers before you sell.
To sell a product or service, I simply need to send emails to my subscribers.
There is no need to cold call, and there are no crazy pitches.
It takes just one email.
This is how you build a list.
How do you create a list?
Last year, I launched a new brand-Growthtext – New blog
Most of the content on list building I found online was outdated or too turgid.-jumbo list articles (listicles) which don’t provide real meat, I headed out to build my list my own way.
I tried countless list building techniques and strategies (over 50+).
#1. To find which traffic source converts, I tried different sources.
#2. I tested different content types to determine what type of content engaged my target audience. This prompted them share.
#3. #3.
#4. #4. I tried different social media platforms: paid traffic, online communities and Facebook groups; email outreach strategies.
#5. I even sent cold emails to big name influencers like Gary Vaynerchuk, Mari Smith, Larry Kim, Sam Hurley and others to find out what makes influencers want to promote me to their audience and what doesn’t.
Six months of hard work, trial and error, took my Growthtext email list from zero to 5,000 subscribers.
6 list building mistakes you DON’T want to waste your time on
It’s not easy to grow your audience or build your list.
You need to run many experiments in order to discover what works. Most of your experiments are doomed to failure.
Most techniques and tricks that do succeed are not scalable. This means they cannot be repeated reliably.
My best advice-
Don’t just jump in and blindly apply what you read online.
You will likely be frustrated and angry.
If you are going to build your list, here are 6 list building mistakes you DON’T want to waste your time on:
1. Twitter and Facebook
Facebook organic reach is at 6% and growing every year.
Click through rates on Twitter average 0.5% for all niches
Your tweets and posts on Facebook will likely go unnoticed unless Gary Vaynerchuk is nearby or Guy Kawasaki.
When you are starting out, don’t waste time building your social media followings with the intention of converting them into email subscribers.
2. LinkedIn
LinkedIn is noisy just like Twitter or Facebook.
LinkedIn users are not likely to pay attention what is happening in their news feed. The result is that engagement is extremely low.
It is not surprising. LinkedIn was created for job search and B2B collaborations.
It’s pretty useless if you are there to build your email list.
3. Pinterest and Instagram
You can only use these two platforms to your advantage if you continue producing visually appealing content.
Not only that, you need to produce a lot of visuals consistently – like making 5–10 posts a day, for months.
You can’t guarantee you will have thousands more followers after you do this.
It is not easy to grow your Instagram and Pinterest audience. It is a long process.
If you’re looking for rapid and efficient growth, these places may not be the best.
Instagram and Pinterest are both great. However, chances are they won’t grow your email very fast.
4. Reddit
Reddit, despite its large number of daily users, is not a place where you can achieve success.
Reason being? Everyone hates himself-promotion.
As long as people don’t know, things can go well.
If someone discovers your true purpose, they will accuse you of being self-deprecating-promotion or are likely to be prohibited.
Reddit overall is fantastic.
You can post something on Reddit from time to time, and you might even attract some new subscribers to your email list.
If you do it often enough, your axes will fall really fast.
Reddit is not recommended if you’re looking for an easy and predictable way to build your email list.
5. Search Engine Optimization
SEO your website to the top Google results and convert a portion of site visitors into email subscriber.
This seems like a good plan.
Search Engine Optimization (or SEO) is almost a waste of time, unless you have an old website that is already loaded full of content.
Performing basic SEO is all that’s needed as you write your pages, not full on optimization.
This can be saved for later.
You can ignore optimizing all pages except the top ones.
When Growthtext hit my 10,000 visitors per month traffic goal, I didn’t go out to get one single backlink to my blog (links from other sites to yours are just one part of SEO).
I just didn’t pay attention to my Google ranking at all.
Google is not really relevant when you’re just starting to build your list.
6. Guest Posting
The truth is almost every marketer will tell you that guest posting is not a good strategy for driving traffic to your website and building your list.
Tim Soulo reached to 239 bloggers who contributed guest posts to 78 blogs related the marketing niche and asked them one question.
“What’s the amount of referral traffic that you can get from a guest post?”
The solution?
56 visits!
Yes, there were 56 visits on average across the 239 guest posts. Not impressive.
While guest posting on websites with huge traffic numbers can result in a lot of eyes on your post (on that website), it’s difficult to move the readers on over to your own site.
So again, forget this strategy when you’re starting out.
