Irvin Cornthwaite, a chemist by trade, was Irvin Cornthwaite. Irvin, in his early fifties had spent much of his adulthood developing compounds for The construction industry.
Irvin had an idea in 2004. Perhaps he could help builders save money and time by sharing his knowledge on construction compounds. Give them a “missing manual” So to speak for The products they used every single day.
The problem was that Irvin was not a businessman, but a chemist.. He hired help. He also learned as much as he could by hiring help. He finally had a website and his first manual after spending four and a-half months and some very hard nights. He intended to sell it for $200.
The Early Results
Irvin was able to make $34,000 in his first online year.. While fantastic for someone just starting out, it wasn’t nearly enough to replace his full-Time salary as a chemist. As the months and days passed, Irvin became more involved in his daily life, and he began to spend less time on the site. Finally, he stopped working on it entirely.
This was just the beginning for 10 years, as Irvin’s website sat untouched. It was still selling. Irvin still made an average of $21,000 per year from the site.
An Expensive Lesson
Irvin decided in 2015 that it was finally time to take control of his neglected website, as he was nearing retirement.. To give the website a new lease of life, he hired a local marketer to help. Irvin received a brand new website from the firm for $15,000. It included a sales funnel, upsells, and fancy videos.
His sales plunged by 50% instantly. After six months of tweaks, modifications and re-instatements-His sales were only half as high as they were in the past, despite his designs. Irvin was shocked at the results and decided to go back to the original site. When he did, Sales immediately doubledThey will return to the place they were always at.
Stuck with a site that worked but was old and outdated…and a new, expensive site that didn’t work…Irvin decided to do some experimenting. Irvin tried something simple for his experiment. He simply took one part of his old site and put it in the new site. That’s all he did. He then put the updated website online. This time however, his sales didn’t drop by 50%. Instead, they actually doubled yet again…To more than $40,000 per annum.
The Secret Right Under Your Nose
What was it about Irvin’s old site that generated twice as many sales as his new site? And what specific piece did he then take from the old site and add to the new…which doubled his sales once more?
It was a sales pitch.. A sales pitch that told a story. The story of a builder who had used Irvin’s manual. This story resonated with his customers. It was a story that his customers could relate to. They bought it because of the story.
I’m the guy who wrote that story for Irvin. I was the “help” He hired him back in 2004. Irvin shared this story with me recently over Skype (where I laughed that I should have charged more).

Princeton University neurologists give a more scientific explanation.. Let me explain. They compared brains of people who told stories and those who heard them. The scans showed that the brains of people listening to stories begin to mirror those of those who are telling them. The storyteller is able to control the minds of the audience, in other words.
Researchers also found that the brain responds differently to stories.. It’s the area of your brain which allows you to anticipate what is going to happen next. And this area only becomes active when you’re completely engaged in an activity, when your attention is focused on only one thing. This hyperactivity is triggered by stories, it turns out.-Attention in us automatically.
Over 350 studies in areas such as cognitive science, neural psychology, and brain development have all confirmed this fact.. Stories are predisposed to positive responses in the brain. Stories free our brains from the autopilot.-pilot mode. These forces us to pay full attention, almost instantaneously.

Increase your sales by selling more products at higher prices
I’ve long known this from my 20 years of experience in developing and selling products online. It’s the one indisputable truth I’ve learned; that storytelling allows you to sell more products, for You can make more money.
But it wasn’t until a few years ago that another study finally provided the science to back this up. It was a six-month study that was both simple and fascinating…involving eBay and garage sales.
100 items were randomly purchased at garage sales in the study.. On average, each item costs just $1.25.
These items were then sold on eBay. And here’s where it gets interesting. Instead of listing the items like people normally do…with generic, boring or even non-existent descriptions…These stories were used for listing the items. Sometimes, these stories are very complex and elaborate.

And that’s the power of storytelling. It makes your products more appealing and makes people pay more attention. They are therefore more valuable. They are therefore more sought-after by buyers who want to purchase them at a higher price.
But There’s One Big Problem

The first is that people think they can’t tell stories. Or don’t know how. Or can’t imagine how they’d ever craft a story about their boring product, service or business. They start to look. for help…they look for Someone to teach them.

This means that there are many options for sourcing the right product. “experts” They are trying to teach storytelling. And to be blunt, they don’t know what the hell they are talking about.
