Dean Talks about his childhood in wrestling and sambo before he became interested in jiujitsu. He also talks about how he got hooked on the submission side of the sport. He discusses his philosophy about jiujitsu and looks back at how the sport has evolved over his career. He started out with a stronger emphasis on submissions and self-defense, but the sport has changed over the years to accommodate the modern point system in jiujitsu competitions.
Dean The top half guard shows a toehold submission. This can be used against your opponent if they are trying to stall their match or have their legs in a triangle. The submission works best when your opponent is holding their legs tightly in a triangle. If they are not tied, you may be able to recover their guard.
