Brain to Brain: Interpersonal Neurobiology & The Traumatic Transference

Psychotherapy is a neurobiological exchange that can be complex and shifting. “dyadic dance” Between two human beings. How we “dance” It is determined by our unconscious body and emotional memories from early attachment experiences, which have established patterns of eye contact and proximity, autonomic arousal and internal senses of safety and danger.

Clients who have suffered neglect or abuse in their youth often feel conflicted and afraid of the future. Although they may want to trust and tolerate misalignment and disappointment in therapy, their emotional memories of hurt, humiliation and betrayal can invade their therapeutic relationship. Rather than making things better, the therapist’s expressions of empathy or attempts to process what happened in the transference often seem to make things worse.

Therapists have a new way to see how interpersonal neurobiology can help them.-traumatic “dance” Without the need to intellectually process empathic misalignments and failures. To maintain a smooth dance rhythm, it is important to be able to control and regulate our nervous systems and our somatic experience.

A body can be created using insights from both Sensorimotor Psychotherapy and interpersonal neurobiology.-We can use trauma-centered talking therapy to help clients with attachment and trauma. This allows us to create moments of connection and attunement even for the most difficult clients.

Although our clients are eager to solve their current issues and post-traumatic stress, they often become preoccupied with their bodies and suffer physical pain that distracts them from the therapy.
