Jason Wojo and Franco Dattdo – Introduction to Dante Trudel’s DC Training
In “A Look at Some Popular Hypertrophy Programs”, I mentioned Doggcrapp (DC) training in terms of being one of several excellent approaches to Training for hypertrophy. The brainchild Dante Trudell (who uses Doggcrapp’s screen name, hence the name) DC This is an excellent combination of many good ideas. to bodybuilding.
As mentioned in the article above, I don’t think that DC Training is right for everybody and Not everyone is able to do it well. Those who do it well, however, grow. and Grow well. Now, I’ve wished for a while that Dante I would write a book. DC Training, I think the ideas require to get wider exposure. Apparently he’s just not interested.
Two of these are thankfully available. Dante’s ‘students’ For lack of a better term, Jason Wojo and Franco Ditillo has put together a DVD to Both are explained and Show the ideas behind the DC approach.
Overall appearance In terms of packaging, the DVD is professional and The outside of the DVD (e.g. The outside of the DVD. The audio is good (this isn’t the case for many products) and the video is nicely shot; it’s not professionally done, nor is it a guy with a handycam. While most of the video is simply men talking to each other, the training footage is very well shot. and it’s easy to see what’s going on.
The DVD: The DVD is divided into four segments, which are Introduction, Workout 1, Workout 2, and Additional features I want to Each one should be viewed in a specific order.
Introduction: The DVD’s first segment is approximately 20 minutes in length. and It consists of Jason Wojo Explaining the guts of DC system. Beginning with who? DC For (advanced men who are able), training is for to push), it also covers who it isn’t for (beginners and wimps). There’s a refreshing element of honesty to this attitude, recognizing that the system that you personally think highly of just isn’t for everyone.
This is it. DC Similar to High intensity training (HIT), in that it attempts to increase the intensity of your training to Get maximum growth stimulation at the lowest volume. In most cases, this is a single set. However, there’s an additional twist: once you have failed one time, there are two more.-Normal pause sets are done with 10-Between each breath, take 15 seconds ‘mini-sets’ So, 11 total.-It takes 15 reps to complete a set.
This is often followed by an isometric hold for many exercises and Most movements are followed by something. DC Calls for extreme stretching or loaded calls DC Training is all about progress. Always make an effort to beat your previous best and Gain strength in a moderate repetition range. This is combined with adequate food and growth.
Multiple exercises can be chosen for any training cycle. and Rotate every workout so you can make greater strength gains. to The same exercise is performed a bit less often.
In contrast to Some HIT systems DC Each muscle group should be trained every fifth day to stimulate growth. It is recommended that you alternate between two splits every day for three days. Exercises are rotated within that time frame, as previously mentioned. and Each workout is a success.
Also, DC Training follows a method of ‘blasts’ and ‘cruises’ (essentially, varying intensity) lasts approximately 4-6 weeks and 2 weeks respectively. For 2 weeks you can cruise (or train less intensely) and Then blast (40% more)-6 weeks. It is almost identical to How I recommend people to cycle my generic approach to Training in hypertrophy, 2 weeks of relatively easy work followed up by 4-6 weeks of pushing the limits before you give up and Then you build it again.
Overall, I enjoyed the DVD. to be a great introduction to The concepts of DC system. Frankly, it’s not a complex system but training doesn’t have to Be complex to Be utterly effective
I would have to say that I believe the introduction went a little too wrong. Jason It was successful to Learn more about the scientific and philosophical reasons behind loaded stretching Might Work (personally, I believe they are just a heavy-loaded eccentric). Talking about progressive overload and beating your logbook to Hyperplasia: A discussion and PGF2a seemed a little out of place to me. In one of the bonus sections, he mentions that he holds a degree as an immunologist. So he’s just another labcoat; a big labcoat mind you, but a labcoat nonetheless.
It was also cute, according to the camera man. to You can move away from straight ahead shots to This is a 45 degree angle shot (thanks MTV). Jason Is a way of looking at to The side of the screen and We are not speaking directly to you. It is not a major quibble.
Workout 1 The first workout was chest, delts, triceps and back width. and Back thickness. Truthfully, I find training videos boring. and this wasn’t much different, it took me several viewings to You can get through it. We got it. to Watch the men explain it. and Before you start to warm up, to Doing a rest pause for DB shoulder presses, reverse grip bench press, and incline bench presses and Modified rack chinning (DB held in one’s lap), static holds were done following several movements, although neither lifter was close. to Each one takes 30 seconds.
Rack pulls for back thickness were performed for two sets for reasons that are not clear. (note: rest pausing deads is a good method). to You can kill yourself if your form falls apart. Both Jason and Franco These boys are strong and powerful and They lost some weight (IMO, Jason Everything was in its best form.
The most intriguing thing about the workout was watching the people doing the heavy/extreme stretches. They were never willing to lend themselves. to verbal descriptions and Anyone who is interested in the system can learn a lot from seeing what is being done. It is possible to see the different exercises performed by lifters, so viewers have options for training their own if they are interested in the system.
Every set is accompanied with heavy metal. and The guys have fun joking between sets. Each lifter then explains how they keep track of their workouts. I found it kind of useless but, then again, when 99% of gym goers don’t record a thing, seeing that a couple of big boys record their workouts to It is important to keep track of their progress.
Workout 2 Workout 2 was a combination of forearms and calves, hamstrings, and biceps. and finally, quads. Finally, quads were hit with incline-DB curls on the biceps and forearms (really brachialis), with a cross body curl they called pinwheel curls. Then, a loaded/extreme stretch was performed. Calves consisted of one LONG set that included calf raises, with an added extreme stretch. to watch. Hamstrings were leg curls. However, the hamstring stretch wasn’t shown and was instead described in text. Finally, quads were hit with leg presses in two sets.-pause). This was, frankly, a disappointment for me. DC’s guys tend to Talk about 20 rep ‘widomaker’ As if they were the key, squats to I was hopeful about the system to A good set of 20 reppers can be seen on the DVD.
Good poundages were moved as with Workout 1 and The guys cheated between sets. It was quite funny to see how the guys looked at the gyms across the street.-goer’s face as Jason and Franco The leg press was loaded with every plate at the gym.
Extra features The DVD had a number of special features which I’ll describe briefly.
DC nutrition: A basic look at DC Nutrition concepts, including protein, carbs and fat intake, how much to eat, etc.
Alternative exercises: Shows a bunch of alternative training movements (with an overemphasis on arm training in my opinion) some of which you’ve probably seen and some of which you haven’t. I’m still disappointed that the DVD showed no squatting.
Wojo’s Wisdom: One of the dudes on the DVD shares some of his experiences with training over the years, he makes some good points regarding getting injured, not being ego driven and Rest if your body is calling you to. to and other things most gym rats simply don’t do (but should).
Interview: An informal interview with Franco and JasonI struggled to stay focused. and Pay attention to this.
Big Larry: This was something I did with 4 DC Texas Roadhouse is full of guys talking about whatever they want, but by that time in the DVD I had lost all interest. If I missed THE SECRET to DC This is a training method that you can skip. Please tell me exactly when it happens on the DVD and I’ll go back and You can see it.
And that’s that. Overall, this DVD is good. and Anybody who is looking for a wonderful introduction to The DC systemand It would be a good idea to see how the actual workouts turn out. to Purchase it. Training videos are usually what I find. to This one may seem a little boring (watching a large man blast his guns is boring), but it’s actually very informative for those who’ve heard of it.
