Ever been told that you should just “be fearless”? What happened? You most likely tried to be fearless, then felt afraid, anxious, or stressed anyway, and in the end felt ashamed because you weren’t “tough enough”. A person being told to be fearless is as helpful as telling them not to drink. It is difficult to be fearless unless you have a major neurologic disorder or damage to your brain’s anatomical fear center, the amygdala. We all have fear, but we don’t really talk about it and we usually aren’t trained on how best to deal with it. Trying to be fearless doesn’t work, but when put into action, these evidence based strategies will.
It is called the Fear Forward Method.
There’s no cure for fear because it’s part of who you are. But, when you implement the Fear Forward Method into your decision making practice, you can begin to make fear work for you and alleviate some of it’s more detrimental symptoms by reshaping your relationship with everyday fears.
To be afraid is to be human.
Because these are the fears we have to face every day, this workshop will focus on them. Since I would never ask you to do something I haven’t already tried out myself, I will share with you personal stories and my own exploration work responses to help illuminate the Fear Forward methodology.
We will discuss the mechanisms of fear in the human body. The course will also give you a list of practical strategies that can help you harness the power and potential of your fears. This course is not intended to replace professional treatment for phobias and diagnosed mental health problems, but it can help you transform your relationship with fear by providing evidence-based instruction, guidance, and activities.
