Rigging Cinema 4d is a powerful workflow that can be used by anyone. 3d Artists should be aware of it. This is not only useful for creating characters, but also has many other applications. Once you master the joint tool, binding, and weight painting, you’ll see that you can shape and animate geometry in any way you want.
Training of the highest quality
We brought 3d artist, Joey JudkinsWe went to MoGraph Mentor headquarters to film this workshop. We’ve created a training series that is clear and concise. What you will learn in this workshop
If you’re interested in 3d You can learn character design in this course. You will learn how to use Cinema 4d to model, rigging and weight paint characters.
Character Design
A model sheet is necessary before you can start using Cinema 4d. You will need to create a basic design and then make a model sheet as a guide. 3d The modeling process.
You’ll be provided with Joey’s model sheet so you can follow along with his modeling of Mira.
Torso & Hands
To begin the modeling process, jump into Cinema 4d. We’ll be doing what’s called “Box Modeling.” Start with a simple cube. Next, use modeling tools to create subdivisions. Then we can start shaping our torso shape.

Then we’ll walk you through the modeling of a hand with a very simple approach.
The Head
We’re off and running with our model and we now continue to the head and facial features. It’s best to keep the base model simple, and to use a sub-division surface.
We’ll then add details like the hair, eyes, and mouth.
Waist, Legs & Feet
By now you’ll understand the basic modeling workflow and best practices of edge flow and topology. For the lower body of the character, we continue to use the box modeling approach.
Using simple tools we’ll create the waist, legs, and feet as the final step in modeling.
Joints & Binding
Our mesh is modeled and it’s time to build the skeleton of joints that will become our rig. Using the joint tool we’ll start from the waist and work our way towards the fingers.
You’ll learn how to work symmetrically, so you’re not repeating steps for each side of the body.
Weight Painting
The joints are in place, we’ve binded them to our character model, now we must refine the weights of each joint. This is the final step to build controllers for rig.
Weight painting is all about being clean and focused on the poses you need to be successful.
Building Controllers
Congratulations! You have made it through weight-painting! Only a matter of seconds before the fun begins. Before animating our character, we must build controllers that keep our base joints clean.
Using nulls and splines you’ll create a custom set of controllers to drive the animation of your rig.
UV Unwrapping
Although this is not the main purpose of the workshop, we wanted to demonstrate it anyway. After you have rigged your character, you can create a UV map to add custom textures.
Joey You will learn how to unwrap with the native C4D tools.
The Animating Walk Cycle
We couldn’t let you go without animating the rig. This concludes the workshop. Joey This will allow you to animated a walk-cycle. We want to help you understand how to animate your controllers and adjust animations in both the dopesheet and curve editor.
It was a hard job to create the rig. Now we can have some fun animating it.

While I was already able to animate characters in After Effects, 3D is a whole new story. This workshop Joey Did a fantastic job teaching the basics of how to model, rig, and animated your own little figure with C4D

Digging the workshop. As someone who doesn’t have a lot of C4D experience, I’ve learned a lot about modeling so far. It’s kinda blowing my mind that I made a character in C4D. This is very exciting!

There are many terms for what I do: animation, motion design and motion work. But I prefer to say I’m an Animator.
If it’s related to animation or motion design in any way, I can jump in and help tell the story you’re looking to tell through video media.
I’m proud to say I’m located in Columbus, Ohio and am husband to a beautiful wife and father of three crazy (adorable) children.
