The technique will consist of 80% standing and 20% on the ground, which is a departure from modern Brazilian jujutsu.

JAPANESE COMBAT JUJUTSU: COMPONENTS
You can split the grading syllabus into two parts. Learning the techniques of jujutsu, as well as combative application to self-defense. You must be proficient in both elements of Japanese combat jujutsu.
My syllabus is from red to black belt, and higher. As you learn new techniques and advanced application, each grade becomes more challenging.
It is possible to break down the physical parts of the art into smaller sections. They can be arranged as follows:
ATEMI -WAZA – Striking and manipulation of the bodies vital points and nerve centres.
NAGE-WAZA- Takedowns and throws.
KANSETSU-WAZA -Joint locks, immobilisations.
TAIHO-WAZA – Control and arrest techniques.
KOTSU HO WAZA – Bone breaking.
SHIME -WAZA – Choking and strangulation.
NEWAZA- ground fighting.
KOBO-WAZA -Weapons techniques.
These components will be found in most combat jujutsu techniques.
The technique will consist of 80% standing and 20% on the ground, which is a departure from modern Brazilian jujutsu.
This was because original battlefield jujutsu had been fought in armour and with guns. Unarmed techniques only came into play if a weapon was lost, broken or both party’s clashed into a grapple.
It would have been very dangerous to go to the ground.
This belief holds true because if you were to use combative self defense techniques, then going to the floor would not be your first choice. We are not engaging in a sport-based grappling match that has rules and regulations. Street life is unpredictable and there are no rules.
Many of the modern sports techniques can be found in-Day Jujutsu wouldn’t translate well to streets, where weapons are common and multiple attacks are common.
Additional techniques that are taught are of cerebral nature.
Warrior mindset
Fear control and adrenal reactions
The anatomy and consequences of violence
Streetwise awareness and streetwise tactics
You can learn the combative aspect of the art to self-defense if you don’t have the time or desire to learn it all. It may be in blocks of 4,8.0.10.22 or more to meet your needs. As proof that you completed your course successfully, you will receive a signed certificate.
