The role of rooibos in maintaining normal cortisol levels
Influence of rooibos in cytochrome P450 enzymes
Flavonoids and polyphenols in rooibos
Other health benefits of rooibos
Amanda Swart, Associate Professor in the Department of Biochemistry of Stellenbosch University. She teaches undergraduate courses and manages her research program as well as her postgraduate students. Swart has been researching the impact of natural products (P450s), on the adrenal cytochrome-P450 enzymes. These enzymes catalyze the biosynthesis of steroid hormones – glucocorticoids (cortisol and corticosterone), mineralocorticoids (aldosterone) and adrenal androgens (androstenedione). She has spent many years studying adrenal steroid hormone metabolism and structure/function of P450s. She uses the baboon enzymes in her model system and links these with the human P450s for comparative analysis.
Along with her interest and passion for steroids hormones, her interest is natural plant products. The P450s are enzymes that are well-suited for studies on the bioactivity and secondary metabolites of plant extracts. Her recent publications into the influence of Rooibos, a herbal tea, on cortisol biosynthesis, supports it’s potential as a functional food and has led to much public interest, locally and internationally

How glyphosate causes the depletion of minerals such as cobalt and zinc by caging them.
Glyphosate can disrupt cytochrome P450 enzymes within the liver and gut, which can have devastating consequences.
Dr. Stephanie Seneff is a Senior Research Scientist at MIT’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory. She has a Bachelor’s degree from MIT in biology, and her PhD from MIT is in computer science. Dr. Seneff is very concerned about the current autism epidemic. Her research suggests that environmental toxic chemicals may play a significant role in this epidemic and in many of the other chronic modern diseases. With collaborators, she published several peer reviewed papers on this subject.
