The shocking truth is that violence, trauma, and other forms of violence are all too common. All women are affected in some way.
Women experience trauma in a unique way. Their posttraumatic symptoms last longer, they’re more sensitive to triggers …
… and they’re often victims of recurrent assault and abuse from someone who’s close to them, such as their spouse, partner, or close family member.
As a therapist, you’ve likely seen the signs and symptoms of trauma in your female clients:
anxiety • shame • anger • depression • insomnia • nightmares
suicidal behaviours • difficulty with intimate relationships • eating disorders

Restorative Yoga encourages embodied awareness, and improves overall well-being. It is an adjunct to psychotherapy and helps with stress relief.
It is possible to lose your ability to recognize it as abusive or traumatising and to learn to accept it. The unacknowledged hurt does not go away; it can just go underground. This can cause you to feel ill and make it hard to live your best life.
The emotional scars from race-based trauma can be felt in the body. Talk therapy alone cannot heal the resulting pain. Sometimes it is difficult to express race-based trauma. It can even be so distressing that talking about it can lead to re-traumatisation.
