AMY SECADA

Secada is a Capoeirista, a teacher of yoga and a dance educator for more than a decade. Secada has presented workshops in more than 20 countries. Her unique dance style blends elements of Afro and Capoeira with urban dance techniques. Her teaching method is based on a holistic approach to discovering our true and primordial expressions through the study and application of all aspects of life, including physical, mental and spiritual.

Secada is proud to bridge the gap between folkloric and urban dance forms. She choreographed for America’s Best Dance Crew, was awarded by NIKE Women with a series solo dance commercials, and an international Nike campaign. This helped to spread her unique dance style worldwide and led to performances with Madonna and Fergie. She has studied in Africa for many years drawing influences from African dance forms such as Congolese, Sabar, Djembe, Afro-Haitian, Afro-Cuban and numerous African street styles such as N’dombolo, Kuduro and Coupé Décalé. Since 2003, she has been studying Capoeira Angola Regional and Regional under the direction of Joao Grande (NYC) and Professor Cascavel (Brazil). Secada is also a RYT200 Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga instructor, Thai massage therapist, and certified Holistic Health Coach. Secada lives in NYC and Brazil, continuing her dance journey as well as creating new works for her company Kinetic Junglist Movement (a neo-ritual performance group). She is committed to keeping dance sacred and transcendental alive in all its forms.
