First, it is important to know Never intended to become a coach.. I didn’t know such a career existed until I met a woman who I hired as my life coach in 1999. After becoming curious about the industry, I almost considered becoming one myself. But then I calculated how much I could earn. I was living in New York City alone and could barely make ends meet, and didn’t see at the time how becoming a coach would help my bottom line. Instead, I focused on my core business, which was writing services for businesses.
2001 was the year I started writing a book about marketing your business through email newsletter publishing. “ezine.” It was sold online and I was thrilled at the additional $1,000 each month. The word spread quickly and it was funny what happened. People who purchased the ebook called me and asked to meet with me. They wanted me to show how they could make an ebook, sell it online, and make money. They wanted me there Coach them!
While I was very flattered, I continued to think. “I’m not a coach. Hmmm. Would that even be legal? I’m sure I’d have to get certified or something to be able to coach people like this.” I politely declined the offer and returned to my core business.
Because it was easy and affordable, I concentrated more on Internet marketing and information marketing. I could also do it while writing clients. I was soon selling more products online, and also started teaching teleseminars about specific topics. I was having a lot of fun and had crossed the $100,000 mark between my clients work and my Internet ventures.
The same thing happened again. People started calling me and writing to ask how they could do the same thing I did. But they didn’t want to buy a product to show them how. They wanted me to be there for them. They wanted me there coach them!
Again, I declined politely, because I was scared. I thought: “I don’t know how to coach!”
There’s a saying that when God’s trying to drop you a clue, first you get a few taps on the shoulder. Then you get whacked with a big 2×4. That’s what happened when one person said, “Ali I’ll pay you whatever you want, just show me how to do what you’re doing.”

What Are Today’s Opportunities in Coaching? Problems? Challenges?
Many people hem and haw about our. “recession hangover”Coaching is still in high demand. Why? Some believe people are overwhelmed. There are too many options. Each day we are overwhelmed by the amount of information available. It is no secret that life has become more complicated. Add to that for many of us the pressure of running and growing a business, and you can easily understand how it’s well worth it to hire someone to help navigate rough waters.
There are two major areas of coaching. Business coaches and life coaches For the purposes of keeping this letter brief, I am going to make some gross sweeping generalizations here…
Business Coaches They are often trained to help entrepreneurs or business owners succeed, or they become successful leaders in their specific industry and coach others. Direct sales professionals, image consultants and dog groomers are just a few examples of niche-specific industries.
Life coaches They often work on a wider range of topics and help their clients make strategic decisions about their careers, relationships, marriages, divorce, motivations, creativity, health care, finances, lifestyle, and sometimes business matters.
Coaching You can conduct the meeting in person, over the phone or by email. (Some older fogeys still use the fax. It can be delivered You can choose to work one-on-1 or in small groups of up to 500 people. The possibilities are endless, and I still don’t know of many more portable and lifestyle-friendly businesses such as coaching. You can conduct your calls from anywhere you are — at home, an office, or on the road traveling. And if you’re going to host live meetings or retreats, I say why not host them in locations you’d love to visit? One example of this is the Diamond Member Retreat that I held last year in Maui. There are many coaching schools and certification programs that can teach you how coach in different niches and industries. Many provide valuable information about how to establish your practice and work with clients.
But here’s the problem… These schools will teach you how make enough money to live comfortably, but not how to generate significant revenues.The overall coaching industry seems very small-minded. If you don’t stick to their “traditional and approved” They may look at you with a crooked eyes, and you might even be shunned.
In fact, a quick example: I know of one coach and speaker – an extremely qualified and successful one – who applied to present at an industry conference on how to charge more for your coaching. Nothing would even be sold – she simply wanted to share this great information. She explained that they had declined to discuss her topic. “too focused on money”!
It is ironic that an industry promotes ideas such as thinking big and getting results. “unstuck,” performance excellence, breaking through your limits, and being your best – I’m sure you’d agree.
Listen, I know you’re here on the planet to help others. This is your purpose and I fully understand. It’s mine too. But The purpose of a business, is to make money. It’s imperative you charge well for your services. In fact, it’s a requirement you charge well in order for you to truly deliver your clients the value you want to deliver and that they expect.
“So Ali, What Kind of Money Could I Really Be Making?”
You can make as much or as little money as you want. It will depend on your lifestyle goals, the level of your expertise and track record, as well as your reputation and business. However, don’t let a lack of knowledge stop you from setting large financial goals. If you’re new, you’ll just need a longer ramp-up time than those who are already running a strong business.
I know some coaches are happy with making six-figures to a few hundred thousand dollars a year with various programs, and that’s great. They want to live a simple lifestyle and not have to worry about hiring staff or building a team. Some people want to create real wealth and quickly design programs that generate large revenues. It’s totally up to you, and my teachings will help you Whatever level your business wants to reach.
My students who choose to expand their business by adding coaching or ramping up existing programs almost always see an increase in their revenues. But incremental increases are not required.
