Most Frequently Asked Questions
What time does the course and end?
Start whenever you like. You can start the first section as soon as you sign up. The course is divided over 12 weeks. Lessons will be available every three to four working days. Work at your own pace and set your own timetable. Students work every lesson as they are given, but there is no time limit or pressure to finish lessons before the next lesson is available.
How do I know when a lesson has been opened?
Lessons are available every three to four working days. Each segment is automatically opened to you and an email is sent out.
Can I get immediate access to all segments of the class?
Sorry, but no. This class is deliberately broken down over twelve weeks. My experience has shown that students are not able to absorb too much information at once. Slowly releasing information allows you to digest and practice the material. Be patient. It takes patience to learn.
How long can I access the course?
Access for life! Each segment will open to you and you have unlimited access for as long as it takes – across all your devices.
What level of skill is required for this class?
This class is for intermediate and beginner colorists. No drawing skills required. It is not necessary to have experience coloring, but you can use any medium such as markers and stamp inks. For more information, email [email protected] Email [email protected]
What am I allowed to do with the Colored Pencil Plus Forums?
Forums are required for you to submit your projects to receive feedback and critique. The CP Plus Forums are great for class interaction because you can talk to other students who are working on the exact same project or have finished it before and can share their knowledge. Learning from your instructor is as important as learning from each other.
What images are we going to be coloring?
The class is 100% botanical images, including flowers, succulents, greenery, and other plants. The images are kept under wraps for one week to keep it a surprise for the first group. You can use all images in a variety of ways, from cards to framable art to digital stamps.
According to the supply listing, Prismacolor Premium Pencils are required. Can I use a different brand?
Prismacolor Premier pencils are used in this class because they are my favorite investment for beginning colorists who don’t know if they want colored pencils to last. There are many other artist grade pencils, but they are much more costly and lack the qualities that are needed by cardmakers or colorists. You can substitute Luminance pencils with wax-based pencils, but I prefer to use an oil-based pencil. Prismacolor numbers and characteristics will be mentioned in the course. If you need to substitute, you will need to locate a reliable converter chart. You should note that colors may vary across lines. Your brand might not be a good match for Prismacolor. You should not use student grade pencils such as Crayola and Prang, Rose Art or Artist’s Loft, Prima, Sargent or Staedtler. Also not recommended: Derwent Colorsoft, Derwent Studio, or Faber-Castell Soft Lead.
What happens if I have different sized Prismacolor Premier Pencils
The 72-color set will include many, but not all, of the 72 colors. You might want to keep the missing colors open stock if your set is smaller. I will post each week a list with pencils that can be used in the next week. This will allow you to time to buy missing colors. Congratulations if you already have a larger collection.
What is the “watermedia” For and in what colors?
Watermedia is the basis for bold and vivid color development without the need to use solvents or blender pencils. Do not worry about watermedia. It is technically optional and will not be added until week 3, after I have had an opportunity to explain it.
What happens if I’m unhappy with the course?
I don’t want you unhappy. You can return your item if you are not satisfied within the first 30 days.
