Ben Strack & Wes Sime – Mental Conditioning for Intense Focus in Baseball
Recently, Dr. Wes Sime You can ask him questions regarding a webinar that is coming up “Mental Conditioning for Intense Focus in Baseball” He will be presenting alongside Dr. Ben Strack. Drs. Strack And Sime They were involved in Baseball for They have been involved in high-performance training teams for decades, and support many elite Olympic, professional, and collegiate sport teams. They currently work with the Biofeedback Federation CIC in developing software applications for baseball.
Before the interview, I had just read an article about Charlie Beljan’s panic attack and subsequent win on the PGA Tour. It’s quite a remarkable story. I am amazed that it doesn’t occur more often. in Both professional and amateur sports. Here is a portion of the article with comments from Jim McLean, golf instructor:
McLean, who is ranked among Golf Digest’s top five teachers nationally, said he saw panic attacks on the golf course from pros and recreational golfers alike more often than people would imagine. McLean explained that it is not a common sight on PGA Tour. It is because calm under pressure is part Darwinian weeding.-Check out the process in Professional golf.
“Anxiety under pressure has driven a lot of golfers out of the game,” McLean stated. “They’re people you don’t know of and never heard about because they couldn’t handle it. That includes some very talented guys. It’s part of the game that is underestimated and just as important as hitting the ball. It can be pretty scary, and it’s an incredible story that Charlie won.”
Dr. Sime He has worked with professional baseball players as well as golfers, and believes that mental training is important. for Peak performance is as important a physical training as it is for peak performance. Each athlete is given a customized training program that includes neurofeedback and biofeedback. Dr. Sime, “Sport pychophysiology and biofeedback provide the “Mind gym” training needed to shape the mental and emotional state of the player to deal with pressure and to thrive under difficult conditions.”
Although peak performance training using biofeedback has seen a steady increase in popularity over the years, it is still relatively unknown to many. How does it work? Biofeedback, in simple terms, is a window to the inner self. One example of this is stress. While we all know how it feels to feel stressed, imagine that we actually have the ability to overcome it. “see” What is happening? in When we feel anxious or stressed, our bodies respond by changing. Our breathing rate may increase, our hands might become sweaty, and some muscles may become tighter. Think about how we can change our stress response. Biofeedback is the way to do this.
Below Dr. Sime Answer a few questions about biofeedback and neurofeedback, as part of his training program
Why is peak performance training important?
2012 World Series showed that the top-paying teams, with the best hitters and pitchers, do not always have dominating results. Baseball is about more than just physical strength and technique. The ability to overcome anxiety and fear, and maintain confidence in the face of adversity is what will get you results. Although physical conditioning and strength are vital components of the game, mental conditioning is just as important. for It is important to have a sharp focus and calmness in order to maximize reaction time.
What’s a typical training program?
It all starts with assessing the individual needs. It often starts with “I’ve got to get better at hitting” Oder “I really want to get around on the ball faster,” Or, “I want less nervousness and more confidence.” in the batter’s box.” We’re really problem solving and we have this sophisticated technology that allows the player to look under the hood and see along with us what’s going on so we can all share in The solution.

What signals should you be watching?
In the beginning, it is important to capture the athlete’s attention and get them interested in This can be done with simple, straightforward illustrations. I usually start with monitoring respiration and heart rate variability or the combination of skin conductance and skin temperature so they can see when they’re stressed or when they’re in coherence. They should then be facing a challenge to monitor coherence. in ReactTrak is what the BFE ProBaseball suite is known as.
ReactTrak requires that the player keep the ball within a defined field of play by using the computer’s mouse. The player needs to stay focused and very intent on tracking the ball on screen just like tracking the baseball out of the pitcher’s hand. Biofeedback should be accounting. for Helping us condition for better performance on our next trial so that we can understand why the player lost the previous event on ReactTrak. A player may notice that he is becoming more rigid or having trouble breathing. To answer your question about what signals are used, let’s say that respiration and heart beat are important, followed by skin conductance, temperature, and muscle tension. The brainwaves, which is the most advanced level, become crucial.
Is that what you mean by hitting?
The goal in Baseball hitting involves locating the ball as it comes out of the pitcher’s hand at lightning speed, and following that ball no matter if it is going straight or breaking in one direction. It is also difficult to swing the bat properly and to the ball with enough force. To move the bat at the right moment, this complex motor learning task requires exceptional eye/hand coordination. in The ball crosses the plate at the same time that it is moving in both time and space. ReactTrak teaches hand and eye coordination. The game’s benefit is that players learn how to do it all. in Relaxed and focused.
How does the training affect the players?
Part of the challenge in The training’s relevance is demonstrated in the implementing program in This is a motivating way for players and coaches to get involved. They may not be familiar with biofeedback and find it too difficult. “wired up” and might feel that it’s a little out of their control. But, once we have access to players, one-on-one really wants to improve at the game. Then, there is the instrumented sensor- and game-driven training in The office is well-organized.
This type training is just one tool. in The arsenal. It is 30-40 years ago, no one was there in Any sport could do weightlifting, training and conditioning. They just did their own sport. And of course now – strength and conditioning, the weight room is just so sophisticated and they’ve got full time people aligned as personal trainers making sure that the work is done properly. It will be the same for mental training going forward. We must be ready to use the most recent technology. We need to act as the interface between athletes and equipment, showing how it works. in Vorbereitung for The Game.
