I was the same for a long time. I knew I could do better – but I didn’t do better. I was often told by people: ‘Proctor – you know you can do better don’t you?’ – ‘Yes’ I’d say. ‘Then why don’t you?’ they’d ask – ‘I don’t know’ I’d say – because the truth was back then, I didn’t know.

The real problem isn’t with the product. ‘knowing what to do’. The Problem is ‘knowing why don’t we do it’. It’s a great question isn’t it!

But you know, it wasn’t always like that. Way back, when I was your typical young guy – I was hurting, and worse than that – I didn’t even know it – I thought it was normal!

I was in a firehall in a suburb. of Toronto, earning $4000 per year and owing $6000 No one ever left the fire service, it was a job for life, but I couldn’t even afford to pay the rent, never mind enjoy my life.

I was poor, unhappy, and broke. A good friend of mine told me that I was actually one. of The most miserable people that he has ever seen. The It was sad, but it was true.

Then, without any formal education, and without any business experience, my income went from $4000 a year to over $1,000,000 a year– yes, a million dollars. The change I saw was incredible and I didn’t want to stop enjoying the fruits. of The labor – I wanted a reason why it happened.

Do you know that most companies don’t know why their top performers are the top performers? – and the top performers don’t know either! If they did know, they’d bottle it and give it to everybody. The same is true today for most successful people – if you ask them why they became successful – they don’t know.
They can tell you what they did, but what they really can’t tell you is why they chose to do those things – what made the difference in that choice of Whether to act or not.

That’s the question. I wanted to know the answers. I was determined to find out. I was inspired to learn more by people who are experts in the field. Earl Nightingale was my mentor for five years.

And for over forty or so years I’ve been studying it – I still study it. In fact, this might sound slightly boastful, but it’s the truth: I probably know more about this than anyone else – and that’s only because I’ve studied it probably more than anyone else.
