This is because I was raised in a profession that strongly associates with the aforementioned. “servant” You can also take care of yourself-sacrificial mentality.
A field where extreme humility isn’t just “good practice” it’s the law.
…At least if you don’t want to risk getting labeled as a “sell-out” Blacklisted or removed from power.
The messaging was constant and firm from my first days as a free intern, all the way through my middle career.
“It’s not about you.”“Real coaches don’t have social media.”“In this profession, you are to be seen, not heard.”“It’s not about the money.”“We want a coach, not a brand.”
These were phrases that I heard echoed by my entire peer group and my mentors early on, so I was a firm believer.
For a while anyway…
This kind of behavior is too common in fields that have a scarcity of quality jobs. “the worth” Thank you for your hard work.
It’s what happens when your self-Image is too tied to the wrong things. When you let the tension and anxiety of wanting to prove yourself get the best of you because you know you have more to offer than you’re getting the chance to show.
It’s what leads to stagnation and an eventual lack of fulfillment.

When fear and insecurity take control of your decisions, actions and work, you can call it stagnation.
If these harmful behaviors aren’t addressed, they can become a problem. Blindspots They can cause you to lose your job, your relationships, or stop you from making the difference that you were meant to.
But it doesn’t have to be that way.
When I realized this, I was called out by the people I believed I was serving. All the while keeping my profile low and focusing solely on the work.
One afternoon while training a large group of athletes preparing for their upcoming season, I was asked by an 11 year NFL Veteran why I wasn’t on social media.
I looked at my boss and repeated the mantra that I had heard throughout my entire career. “because true professionals do the work, they don’t talk about it.”
“Interesting,” He replied, nodding his head in disbelief.
“So you don’t think your work has any value except for the people who are right in front of you?”
His reply surprised me a little, as I hadn’t thought of it that way before.
“That’s not it,” I fired back. “I’m just not egotistical enough to think anyone else really cares what I have to say. Enough people are shouting from proverbial mountaintops already.”
“That’s one way to look at it,” He stated. “But those people aren’t you and they haven’t had the same life experiences you’ve had. That alone makes what you have to say unique.”
I had no reply.
I did something more than just creating a social-media account the next day; I reorganized my entire network.-I am committed to writing my book.
This book tells the story about how I almost lost my life as teenager because of communication difficulties that led to poor medical treatment.
A book that told a story that I was ashamed of for close to 15 years.
A book that is so many “big name” publishers told me nobody would be interested in reading since I wasn’t a household name, because I worked in an obscure industry, and because the story of my drastic weight-Hospitalization and loss were “too intense.”
A book that became a bestseller.-Bestseller in many categories, translated into almost a dozen languages and adopted by Fortune 500 companies, universities and sporting organisations alike. A book that was self-published sold more than 100,000 copies globally in its first two year.-published and funded solely by me and my wife’s paltry savings account.
I’d love to tell you that after the success of my first book I received no further criticism, haven’t dealt with imposter syndrome since, and that everything else just fell into my lap.
But I’d be lying to you.
No matter what you create there will always be people your work doesn’t connect with, there will always be mistakes, there will always be setbacks and there will always be critics.
However, the cost to do nothing is much greater than that of being wrong.
I still hear the voice of the loudest and harshest critic I’ve ever known every day.
This is my voice.
You will always be the loudest critic of someone who is determined to make a difference. You will always be the most challenging boss you’ve ever worked for.
Your boss who tells you that your work is not good enough.
The boss whose expectations aren’t realistic.
You don’t want to submit your work to the boss because they know you will tear it apart as soon as they see it.
However, there is a point when the narrative of our lives changes.
A time when we’ve had enough of running from or apologizing for what we want.
This is a time when we can turn our frustration into fuel.
It is the time when we learn to overcome our fear of failing or judgment. Instead of a headwind, a tailwind is preferred.
Some people experience it when they lose their job or realize that they need a change.
For others, it comes because they’re tired of going to bed at night wondering if they’re really doing all they are capable of. If they’re actually making the change they originally set out to make when they started in their chosen field.
This tension is caused by the desire to make everything better. To create value. To make a difference and to find solid footing.
We’re often told to ignore it. To be grateful for all that we have and to focus on the present. But leaders don’t just live for the moment, they think for the future.
It is also possible to ignore tension and create anxiety and restlessness. This environment can be ripe for creating Blindspots In our professional and personal development.
What’s a blindspot?
They’re the things that lie just outside our periphery. They prevent us from reaching our full potential.
Things that make it difficult to see the possibilities and accept them as they are.
Blindspots This can cause us to become overwhelmed, lose focus when it is most needed, and doubt our abilities to make the right decisions.
Blindspots We can learn from you that art and our part are not important. And that tomorrow is the best day to pursue what we have been pursuing.
