What Will You Learn?
The British Sign Language Course introduces students to BSL and helps them to become fluent enough to use it in basic, everyday conversation. By the end of the course, you will have a good, basic understanding of BSL and be in a great place to pursue British Sign Language further and develop further proficiency in it.
As well as understanding the practical aspects of vocabulary and grammar, this course also gives students a more thorough knowledge with additional topics covered, such as the origins of British Sign Language, how it is used (not solely as a form of communication the hearing and speech impaired), and the grammatical structure of the British Sign Language, called the Topic Comment Structure and how it differs from its spoken counterpart.
Students will learn BSL online via visual demonstrations of the signs discussed. This accredited British Sign Language course is accompanied by video tutorials, which you will gain access to upon enrolling on the course. The following topics are taught in the videos:

The BSL Diploma takes anyone who wishes to learn British sign language, from complete novice, to having a good, basic understanding of British sign language and being capable of using it in basic, everyday conversation; giving them a good foundation of knowledge to then go onto further study and gain further proficiency. The course will help those who work with the public or in carer roles, where they may come in contact with BSL users, and for those who are considering a career in British Sign Language Interpretation but would like to understand the topic further before committing to a more financially and time-demanding course.
