What’s up there SEO Pros?
Today you’re going to discover how to do an SEO audit In three distinct phases.
To be exact, Phase 1, Phase 2 and Phase 3.
What I’m going to be specifically doing here is showing you how I bring clients in with an initial site-Wide SEO audit and then I’ll be revealing to you how you can start working on individual URLs in phase two.
After that, we will move into Phase 3 which is where we begin implementing keyword research and content clustering for a web site in order to get it to rank long term for mega difficult/competitive keywords.
Here’s a small example. how much I’ve made from selling SEO Services in the last one year So (not including Paypal payments).
How to Give Away Your Audits
Your audit should be easy to give away.
Everybody and their mom need an audit these days. Even people with no experience need an audit. “SEO Giants” like Neil Patel could use an audit and trust me, I’ve audited his site, it needs some work.
Since I’m guessing you probably don’t have much authorityStart with local websites in your region.
I will you advise against cold calling (however it does work and it is how I landed my first $300 clients four years ago) it is, unfortunately, an extremely spammed technique and even with my current authority I personally wouldn’t do it.
So Here’s What You Can Do
Begin by visiting local shops or making appointments with businesses that are not high on Google.
I just booked a $50 session to see a chiropractor. He simply said that it was hard to find him online.
After some conversation, I was able convince him to give me an audit for no cost and I ended up signing him up as a client.
Note: when telling business owners what you do, lead with your best quality that’s hyper relevant to their niche or location.
For instance, if you specialize in chiropractors and you’ve already been able to rank your own site in a similar niche, simply tell them what you did and that you want to audit their site to do something similar.
Or, if your are like most SEO’s and have ranked #1 in your area of something like SEO Tell them about your web design or locality.
Start with Phase 1 Audit
Phase 1: Sitewide SEO audit
Here, the theory is that you want work from scratch.
For example, if you started working on a house you ideally don’t want to start working on adding new floors (content) or fixing individual issues like some of the windows on the top floor (individual URL’s) because if the whole house collapses than you’re basically fu****.
It is important to start with the foundation of your house (sitewide issues like pagespeed, indexation, SSL and bloat content). Because the foundation will make or break your entire house. SEO strategy.
Moving to SEO Phase 2: Individual URL Optimizations
It should take you no more than 10 minutes to complete Phase 1.-You can now move on to optimizing individual URLs within 15 hours.
By fixing sitewide issues and then moving into optimizing the top trafficked URL’s on a website first, this is LITERALLY the quickest way I’ve found to show results to clients.
With that being said, here’s how you’re going to set up Phase 2.
1. You can return to the Screaming Frog Crumble tab.
2. Scroll to the right until you see clicks (note you won’t see any data if the site you’re working on doesn’t have Search Console connected or doesn’t have any prior data/traffic)
3. Sort clicks from Z to A
4. Create New Sheet and Name it Benchmark
5. Copy Screaming Frog Crawl To New Benchmark Tab
6. Move Clicks in Front Of URL’s
7. Right-Click on the top column in the left hand side and add six columns labeled Keyword, Clicks CTR, Avg position, Keyword Difficulty and UR.
Before we move on to mapping out our keywords, I want to speak about something important.
Finding New Keywords and Tapping into Phase 3
Before I continue showing you how to look up your prior data for URL’s and why it is important, I need to show you how to map out new keywords to your URL’s if the current data you have on Search Console doesn’t match.
First, I think about how I want to get recognized and where I want most of my money to go.
This can be difficult for some people, as you might want to be recognized as someone who does. SEO audits, SEO services, SEO Training and much more
I can assure you of one thing: You must hyperachieve in order to be a monster within any area you wish to excel at.-Focus on the topic, then move on.
My training of people is where I make the most money. SEO.
With that said, I want my main branding to be focused on something related to SEO training.
This brings us to Phase 3: Keyword Research, Clustering.
Phase 3 Partially Introduction
Since I’m aware, I want to rank for specific topics SEO training, I will begin by going to ahrefs and typing in that main phrase into keyword explorer.
Next, I’ll click on all keyword suggestions and I’ll also see how difficult the keyword difficulty is.
Note: I aim to target phrases that are within the range of what my pages rank for. This is based on average keyword difficulty. Site Explorer allows me to view this information by entering my site and clicking on organic keywords.
It is clear that the majority of keywords I rank for are within the KD range 1-50. This indicates to me that with on page and content clustering work I could likely rank for this keyword in the next 3 – 6 months.
The next step is to add an include filter so that I can see all keywords ideas in keyword explorer. “training” Enter the keyphrase and then select parent topic.
One thing that I noticed is that I have easier, more long tail keywords that I can target. As I gain more authority and presence for these keywords, I can start optimizing for Phase 2, which we will be returning to.
