Colleen Sleik – 2-Day, Certificate in Vestibular Rehabilitation
Colleen Sleik After being able to evaluate a patient for whom she was not equipped, PT DPT OCS, NCS started her journey into the specialist care of vestibular rehabilitation patients. She wanted to learn more. It is easy to recognize and treat BPPV. The care of patients who are suffering from multiple conditions, such as BPPV, can be complicated. To understand the system as a whole, advanced learning is necessary. These challenging patients inspired this course in mind.
The course starts with an assessment and treatment of BPPV. There is also a lab component that allows you to practice techniques, hand positioning and patient care.-You may need to make specific modifications. You will learn to recognize BPPV better and then recognize presentations that don’t conform to the BPPV pattern. The non-BPPV presentations will be further assessed and treated.-Functional assessments and treatment progressions will also be used to diagnose BPPV.
You will have a better understanding about assessment, treatment techniques and patient.-Dizziness patients will need to be able to identify the specific modifications that are needed and use differential diagnosis skills. Your skills will be elevated when you are able to identify the areas where therapy may be applied to provide the best functional gains for patients. You will also learn the strategies to help patients progress through each area.
- To enhance your evaluation and differential diagnosis skills, it is important to distinguish key subjective reports.
- With proper technique, perform vestibular assessment techniques.
- Proper positioning modifications are necessary for patients with mobility limitations and physical space restrictions.
- Identify appropriate functional outcome measures based on patientβs condition and therapistβs work environment.
- To diagnose therapy, analyze the vestibular assessments.
- Analyse key findings to assist in Differential diagnosis for central, peripheral, or cervicogenic dizziness.
- Explain the exam findings that indicate multiple diagnoses. This could include multiple canals, multiple peripheral conditions, and mixed central-and peripheral conditions.
- To improve functional outcomes, create a care plan based on the results of assessments.
- Choose the right treatment methods from evidence-These guidelines are based on the principles of vestibular rehabilitation.
- Plan the appropriate treatment for BPPV and peripheral vertigo.-concussion syndrome.
- Based on accurate diagnostic procedures, you can make a prognosis.
- Recognize the factors that could contribute to plateaus in progress.
- Consider all aspects of the patient’s medical history, as well as any presenting factors that could affect rehab outcomes.

DIFFERENTIATE BPPV SPECIFIC CANAL INVOLVEMENT AND MULTIPLE CAAL BPPV
- Based on the assessment results, determine which canal is involved
- Examine findings that suggest multiple canal involvement
- Based on patient mobility, make appropriate adjustments to your positioning
EVALUATION OF FINDINGS ABOUT CENTRAL, PERIPHERAL AND CERVICOGENIC DIZZINESS
- Analyze the various methods and findings that are specific to central vertigo
- Recognize the most important subjective clues and objective signs of cervicogenic dizziness
- Differentiate BPPV from any other peripheral diagnosis
BPPV THERAPY OF ONE OR MORE CANALS
- Consider where to begin, what to do next and which components to use if your treatment isn’t progressing as you expected.
- Patient education tips to increase compliance with treatment.
- To improve your effectiveness, you need to be aware of factors that could affect the success of canalith-repositioning maneuvers.
WHAT IF ITβS NOT BPPV: IDENTIFY THE 4 AREAS OF TREATMENT FOR ALL VESTIBULAR PATIENTS
- Additional treatment needs for patients with central diagnosis, cervicogenic dilzziness and post-concussion syndrome
- Identify the factors that affect progression
- You can overcome the obstacles that prevent you from achieving success with vestibular rehab
EVIDENCE-BASED FUNCTIONAL ASSESSMENT TOOLS VESTIBULAR PARTICIPANTS
- Choose evidence-Measures of functional assessment based on Vestibular EDGE/Academy of Neurologic Physical Therapy recommendations
- You can choose the functional measures that will be used to guide each of the four areas of treatment in vestibular rehabilitation.
