Sleight of Mouth It is a persuasion skill that can be used to reframe. of beliefs. It is a system. of 14 different patterns of Answer to a stated belief. Once you have the system down, you will be able to give a convincing response to any question. Sleight of Mouth This is the result of The methodology of NLP Being applied to NLP, or, more properly, to Richard Bandler’s debate skills. NLP It grew out of Bandler and Grinder analyze and codify the methods of Milton Erickson (or Gregory Bateson), Virginia Satir, and many others. Robert Dilts applied this same methodology to Bandler’s own unique way with people. His NLP Certification courses, Bandler would challenge participants to use their newly acquired skills to persuade him that a belief system adopted for the occasion (eg.”I can’t see the curve, therefore the world is flat.”) was wrong. Bandler was always able, no matter what they tried to do, to field an army. of Respondents to Turn Their “logical” Arguments about. Dilts was astonished by the results and then was fascinated to see that Bandler was starting to use his patterns. Dilts arranged the patterns in specific categories and created an elegant mindmap. of They make it extremely easy and enjoyable to use.
As an example, if someone were to say to you,”Since I have too many responsibilities, I can’t get to the gym and work out,” you would immediately recognize this syllogism as being perfect for a Sleight of Mouth treatment. The syllogism for treatment is A=B. “complex equivalence.” Statement A “Too many responsibilities,””means”(=) statement B, “I can’t work out.” Now that might be true, but it’s not necessarily true.
You could use this for your response Sleight of Mouth pattern called “Redefine” Say it! “It’s not that you have too many responsibilities, it’s that you have disorganized activities.” (Redefining the term) “responsibilities” In statement A) “It’s not that you can’t work out, you can’t work out how to put yourself and your needs first.” (redefining “work out” In statement B
Another possible pattern is the one called “Hierarchy of Criteria.” This pattern could be used to ask: “Isn’t it more important to take care of your self and your health than to be so micro-managing?”
