Between 1981 and 1985 Dr. John Kappas He was going through what was, in hindsight the most productive, creative, and active years of his professional life. He was revising his E&P Sexuality book and was creating the Mental Bank program and book for public consumption. This period in our history was crucial. HMI There was a core group that included therapists and instructors who were considered to be the best. “Staff.”

The requirement for this status was a weekly meeting with Dr. John Kappas to discuss with him your cases, entertain his newest ideas and generally participate in the growth and development of the E&P model. These weekly meetings began at 10:00-The class started at 10:30 PM and continued until almost midnight. Even though most of us had already worked for the class the day before, it was still a great opportunity to be there. Dr. Kappas’ clinical week, (about 30 per week, in three days at that point) and was his last chance to share all the thoughts in his head before he retreated to his four day weekend on his yacht in Marina Del Rey.

Despite the lateness of the classes and my often shortsightedness in my 20s, I knew that this was a special period in my life. HMI History and Dr. Kappas’ professional life, and I took that opportunity to videotape approximately 100 of these intimate meetings with Dr. John Kappas. I shot the series using VHS videotape at the time, which was an entirely new technology. These recordings were made available to the public. Staff Eventually, to students as well. Only 78 out of 100 original recordings remain. Despite being over 100 years old and having $20 Radio Shack microphones, the recordings still sound great. with Digital remastering is now possible.
