I was stumped by it. It’s a great question. They asked me the same question. It’s easy to forget how hard I struggled when my first started.

Our minds can get so complicated that we freeze. We believe we have to create our product. We need upsells. We need to have downsells.

Complex, automated funnels with automatic emails. Massive ad budgets, split-Software testing and tracking.

This list could go on.

But, I was compelled to ponder all the crap I had mentioned earlier when I was asked this question last Wednesday.

If I had nothing, I could wipe everything clean. And let’s not forget that my goal was build a $10k/mo startup as fast as possible.
I would not use ANYTHING complicated
No split software or funnel software-Software testing or software tracking.

I won’t waste my time creating my own products.

Instead, my focus would be 100% on a single thing, focusing all of the energy and time I have, as well as any money,

An email list. It is the only way to get an email list. “sure thing” As a marketer, I have a lot of trust. The same conviction is mine and I encourage you to share it.

Here’s why:

It is possible that we will all wake up tomorrow morning to see a news story about Facebook closing its advertising platform. Perhaps Google will follow suit a week later.

Maybe laws will be passed to ban online advertising paid for. It is unlikely, I know, but it could happen.

Only “sure thing” Your assets are what you have. These assets can’t and won’t be taken away from you, nor can they be managed (for most of the time).

Your email list? That’s YOURS. It is yours.

You have put your blood, sweat and tears into it. Ain’t nobody gonna rip it outta your hands.

When they asked me what I would do in the event that I lost everything, I answered with “What I would do in the situation where I lose everything.” After a few stops and starts, I finally replied with the following:
