What I saw, during my brief stay…
Left me shaking my head in disbelief
One thing that stood out was obsession…
….damn close to every guy there had to train his chest
In the 45 minutes I was thereā¦
A constant rotation of men clamouring to use the bench press was evident
And when theyĀ didĀ manage to secure one, they would go on to perform a seemingly endless number of sets until their poor pecs couldnāt bare it anymore…
Which I guess wouldnāt be so bad-Ā if these same guys who had just murdered their pecsā¦
Had stopped there…
But as you can surmise that was NOT the caseā¦
After each of these guys beat the shit out of their pecs, they moved on to another chest exerciseā¦
And another one after that
WTF?
All of this took place while the seated row was completely empty.
I’m not going to be judgmental about how others approach their training.
In fact Iām pretty sure Iāve done a bunch of dumb shit myself, over the yearsā¦
But this hereā¦
It was madness

With that saidā¦
I Assume Most Of These Guys Were Performing All These Sets And Reps Because They Wanted Bigger Pecsā¦
What they didn’t realize was this:
If you are trying to raise a specific body part…
It is crucial that you begin by looking at the length tension between the muscle and the muscles directly opposite it.
You see, your body is an intricate system which functions bestā¦
When everything is in balanceā¦
Maintaining balance is so important to your body in fact, that when it senses things getting out of whackā¦
It stops muscle growth from becoming more imbalanced.
This is why these guys devote an entire workout to it.Ā āpumping-upāĀ Their pecs without even addressing them:
– Medial traps
Lower traps
The rhomboids.
Unknowingly, they were preventing any chance of developing bigger and more impressive pecs.
And if that werenāt bad enoughā¦
Let’s see…
They could continue to train in this manner.
This would cause that concave, rounded shoulder, punched, concave, poor puppy posture I mentioned earlier.
And thatās just the beginning…
Remember how I mentioned earlier that your muscles are an intricate system that creates balance?
If one muscle becomes particularly out of control…
It has a domino effect on your whole body.
It can start as nagging shoulders pain.
Many times, the results are in
- Neck painĀ (tight upper traps)
- Low back painĀ (tight hip flexor complex)
And hamstring pullsĀ (tight lower hamstrings)
You find that pretty amazing, right?
And this is just one manifestation of what can happen to the body when shit gets out of whackā¦
There are dozens more potential negative outcomesā¦
Iām not telling you this to scare you btwā¦
But more so to raise awareness about the effects poorly thought out training can have on your body ā¦
