Here’s a Taste Of What You’ll Find Inside…
How To See The World
How to train your eyes to see the world around you in images. This will really open your eyes.
Basic Camera, No Problem
You will see how you can capture amazing images with even the most basic cameras and kit lenses. Cameras are not the only thing that matters. This is important to remember.
Glass, Glass. Glass, Glass. Glass.
Your lens is the most important thing in photography. I explain the differences between a $50 lens, a $2,000 lens, and show you how to get amazing results even with the simplest of kit lenses.
Composition 101
Ever look at an image and think it looks off? Whereas you’ve seen other images that stop you in the tracks and make you say wow? You can learn the basic building blocks of your images by looking at the Rules Of Composition.
Should You Crop?
How many times have they said this to you? “I’ll just crop it in post”? This statement is a terrible one. First, you don’t have to crop the image if you are certain. You can ruin the quality of your images by cropping too much.
Camera Basics
Cameras work in the exact same way. Let’s take you on a tour of the mode dial, so that you can fully understand what it offers. We take you from the auto modes to A-S-M-P.
Shutter Speed
Did you ever notice that subjects blurred when they moved fast? To show the effect of different shutter speeds on freezing movement, I use a swing-set in my guide.
Exposure is affected by shutter speed
Yes, it does. The slower you shutter speed, the less light is allowed in. The slower the shutter speed, you let in less light. You can also freeze or blur motion with shutter speed.
ISO
As a rule of thumb, the ISO should be lower for situations that are brighter than others. The higher your starting ISO should go for a darker situation. In this section, I help you understand the best starting ISO based on what situation you’re shooting in. I also discuss noise and grain in images.tur.
Aperture
Did you know that? “blurry” “out of focus” How to make background images stand out from the rest? I’m going to teach you exactly how to make that happen even if you don’t have the most expensive gear in the world.
Depth of Field
Are you looking to focus on the main subject or all of the frames? What happens when I increase or decrease my F?-Stop? You can stop?
Focal Length And Depth of Field
Did you know that the longer a lens is, the greater the compression in an image? The smaller the lens is, the more compression you get.
What’s Variable Aperture?
In the world, there are both fixed aperture and variable aperture lenses. Variable refers to the fact that the f stop can change as you zoom in or out. Fixed means that the aperture will remain the same regardless of how far you zoom in or out.
Your Light Meter
Modern DSLRs and Mirrorless Cameras have a light meter. This is how it works, and why it can sometimes be confusing.
Focus Modes
Do you know when to use Single AF vs. Continuous AF? Continuous AF? Are you unsure when Continuous AF is best? This section explains it all.
What’s The Exposure Triangle?
The three building blocks that make up the exposure triangle are: These blocks have remained pretty unchanged over the past 100 years. And It is likely that the basic building blocks of photography will remain the same 100 years later. My goal, teach you the fundamentals and mentalities of photography so you can capture the images you’ve always wanted.
Take part in 4 Real World Photo Shoots
Kid’s at Play
This Real World Shoot was a collaboration between a friend of mine and her son. We went to the park to take candid photos. I decided to use a basic DSLR with a Kit lens to show you it’s the photographer, not the camera, that makes the images. I show you how I work with a variable aperture lens as well as a kid who simply won’t stand still. You’re going to love this section if your goal is better photos of kids.
Portrait Shoot and Skateboarding Action
Many of you want better action photos. This is how I show you how it is possible to freeze your subject in mid-motion.-I will show you how to capture the most composition possible in a quick past shoot. You will also learn how to direct your subject when taking street portraits.
Low Light Action Shoot
It is difficult to capture solid images in low-light situations. To help you get great photos from low-light situations, I have provided the foundations and tools.
Portraits in a Park Lot
You don’t need to have the best location in the world to capture great portraits. I chose to do this portrait session in a parking lot to show you even when you don’t have a great location, with some creative focus, depth of field and directing, you can come home with awesome photos.
