This course will teach you how to write about Sport.
I didn’t graduate from high school and never did any higher education. I also never worked for a newspaper. I had no real contacts. I also did my ed without ever knowing anyone who was involved in the sport that I was writing about or having a single friend who was a reporter. Like the Unabomber I continued to write, writing, writing, and writing. I wrote my way into a weird job – global writer – at one of the world’s biggest sports websites, ESPNcricinfo.
I wrote like no one else because I didn’t know there were ways you were supposed to write about sports. I wrote about things that I cared about because I didn’t understand about news cycles. I wrote. with Every article contained a bit of me because I couldn’t be told not to. This all means that I have built a career on writing about sport that isn’t like the careers of others.
This is my reverse-Engineering my writing.
The The course is both theoretical and practical. The course is over two hours long and includes many tips and checklists to help you think, plan and write. There’s also a practical component that allows you to combine my teachings with your own experience. with You are who you are.
I have tried to make it as practical as possible, so that if you find yourself in a press box the next day or writing a feature from your living room, you could take what you’re learning and apply it.
This is not a course on how to get into the industry; most of those are a bit scammy and I don’t want you to think you can take my course and suddenly become the Times chief sports writer. This course is designed to help you become a better sports writer by letting you be who you are.
The These areas are covered:
Writers: Who are you?
How to think of athletes and teams
What types of articles are you allowed to write?
How to find sports stories
The Tools for modern sports writing
Guide to interviewing
Guide for long-term planning-Formulation writing
Data and writing
Giant Lizard Theory
It doesn’t matter to me if you went to Oxbridge, now work at the Guardian covering Premier League, or are an uneducated 57-Year-This course is perfect for any old plumber who wants to share her opinions on Handball trends. This course is open to anyone who wishes to learn more about sport writing.
Although I am primarily a cricket writer, I believe the lessons I have learned can be applied to any sport. In fact, I think they could even be used outside of cricket. I have been honored with a prestigious award and presented a Guardian masterclass. I also wrote for major publications all over the globe. with My elbow has patches that talk about how sports writing was great in a time when people smoked cigars and worked with One finger on a typewriter
I am a writer who is constantly learning, trying to improve, and using my mistakes as a way to help you.
Sports writing, with It has never been more exciting to see the rise of internet TV. I want you all to be as great as possible at writing. It doesn’t matter if you don’t all become David Remnick, but it does matter to me that you get that rush when you finish a story that you’re so passionate about on the page.
Let’s write.

I dropped out of high school and tried two higher learning courses. One course I failed and the other one I completed. At 26 years old, I quit my job at Qantas to become a film director.
I was 27 years old when I began to park cars and do some film work in Melbourne. Oh, and in the same year I started a cricket blog called cricket. with balls.
I’m now 37 years old, have published four books and my documentary can be viewed worldwide on netflix. I also had my own radio station in the UK, a podcast. with Andy Zaltzman of the Bugle, I’ve commented on cricket for ABC, BBC, talkSPORT and BBC. I’ve also traveled to India and Sri Lanka through work.
ESPNcricinfo is the largest cricket publisher in the world, and I am their global writer.
My actual skills are very limited. I am able to write and speak, which has helped me make a career.
