In mid-2008, I self published my first book.-It flopped in 2011.

Although I didn’t know what I wanted to do, I was determined to achieve a significant life goal. In the first six months, five copies were sold and three copies went to friends.

I wanted to sell the book so I began looking into book marketing programs.

The well had a course-known marketer who was teaching authors how to become a “#1 Amazon bestselling author.” I bought the program.

It was 2012 so book marketing was not as common. However, I was disappointed. It is very easy to become a #1 best-selling author. Amazon lets you choose categories with low competition.

These books can be sold in a matter of minutes and are more popular than any other books in their respective categories. You can also buy these copies.

Then, you become #1 in a random category for an hour. Screenshot the status and use it as social proof. A badge can be added to your website.

There are many ways to become an Amazon bestseller. You can leverage that status to sell books, get clients, or book paid gigs.

Although there are some great uses for it, I soon discovered that it rarely leads directly to book sales. A book buyer who isn’t familiar with you won’t be impressed enough by your book to purchase it.

When I had my audience, I sold books.

My books have been sold more than 150,000 times to date. After all of this, I was able secure a major deal with a traditional publishing house. Now my books are traditionally published.

But I have achieved bestseller status in a different manner. My books rose to #64 in the ENTIRE Kindle Store, not just one category. Publishers Weekly and other major bestseller lists have included my books.

There have been times when I outsold mentors.
Statisticians have shown that the average book will sell less 250 copies. You can testify to the difficulty in selling books, if you’re an author.

The same two or three strategies are used in publishing for as long time as books have been published.

There are eight million more books than there were in the past. These old-school strategies don’t work the same and don’t produce consistent book sales. This is not about spikes. I’m referring to your book’s day-in and day out sales.

Strategies that work for all authors, not just those with the most prestigious titles, are key to consistently selling books. Strategies that can be used over and over again.
