Mistake #1 — they only do marketing when they need it. It’s only when sales soften or inventory piles up that they think they need to start marketing.
Mistake #2 — they don’t grow their marketing systems They will also be a part of their business. If they wish to “do marketing” They might try a Facebook Campaign here or an article there. These are marketing strategies. “Hail Mary’s” just don’t scale.

Let’s take customer acquisition. I argue that revenue growth can only be achieved in three ways. One of these is increasing the number of customers.
The three most common mistakes retailers make when approaching acquisition are:
- They might run one.-Off Facebook Ad Campaign, hit a wall and dismiss the channel because it is too expensive or difficult.
- They might talk to some influencers, but they don’t get anywhere. They are dissatisfied with the results and decide to stop.
- They might issue a couple of press releases and make some revenue. Then they fall back to a lower baseline.
- They try to do all this stuff, and do it all poorly. They become stressed because nothing seems to be working. They don’t know where to turn next. (They read marketing blogs to help them feel more convincing. “the answer is still out there.”)

On a personal level, the entrepreneur is stressed out and doesn’t know what to focus on next.
On a company level, either none of the tactics get traction or if they do, there’s no system to scale them up.
Add the idea that Driving traffic is expensive, and it’s a no-win strategy.
Tactical Maneuver Hell drains your time and energy. How do I find out? It was a solitary job at my retail store, and I stayed there for over a year as growth stagnated.
After spending a year putting money into every traffic opportunity imaginable, it was time to get fed up. I stopped and thought about acquisition. That was what I saw. New customer acquisition is possible only with two components:
- Traffic
- Conversion
You’ve got to drive traffic to your site. This traffic must be converted into customers.
That’s it.
I realized that I was following blindly #1, while completely forgetting #2.
Conversions can be increased from traffic already in place (called Optimization of conversion ratesAcquisition can also be improved with the help of CROs (Certified Research Officer).

- Second, it’s much cheaper Traffic is more important than driving traffic. It involves improving your website presence rather than investing in ads.

The wrong is to repeat the mistakes I made above. One is not something you want to do.-AB testing or aiming to test every CRO trick under the sun.

My “Conversion Playbook”
My idea for a retailer was born at my own store. Conversion Playbook.
It was my way to integrate all my marketing efforts to increase conversion rates.
I integrated everything — on-Site offers, off-site offers, email marketing, remarketing, and other techniques — to create a conversion mousetrap. I had every chance of converting a non-profit client with this mousetrap.-buyer into a first-Time buyer
After I had merged everything, I structured it. I set everything up to make it run day and night without my involvement.

1.New buyers are visiting my site at the upper left. Here, I urge for an immediate conversion.
2. If the potential buyer doesn’t buy, I try my best to get her in an email sequence and push for conversion.
3.If she refuses to opt-In, I try to convince her to buy via on-Site offers and sequences
4.And if she doesn’t engage there, I leverage remarketing and custom landing pages. These are the best last resort.-Don’t push for her to become a buyer.
Boom. In 2005, my retailer saw a doubling of its conversion rate using this systematic approach. This system has been used at over ten other retailers.
- Karmaloop.com’s conversion rate was up 30%
- Artstar.com increased its conversions by 40%
- It increased conversions at TRNK (Poler Stuff), Linksoul, among others.
