Gregory McDermott completed a Masters of Applied Finance while pursuing a Rotary International Scholarship at Macquarie. University’s Centre for Money and Banking in Sydney, Australia. He was introduced to foreign currency trading in 1988 by Macquarie Professor. University Who was the head Australia New Zealand Bank FX? Trading Desk. Greg was a part of the Masters of Applied Finance Curriculum and studied currency markets, option trading, and other finance topics. He holds a BS in Financial Management from Saint Joseph’s University.

Greg was hired by the Timber Hill’s Foreign Currency Options Trading In 1991, he was a member of the Group at Philadelphia Stock Exchange (PHLX). His career began on the American Stock Exchange floor as an Equity and XMI Index trader. Options Clerk. In 1992, he was hired as a Crude Oil Floor worker at the New York Mercantile Exchange. Options & Futures Clerk. He passed the Membership Exam with an excellent score and started trading Crude Oil Options In the summer 1993.

Greg was hired by Rockrimmon Securities, an AMEX Market Marking Firm to open a trading section at the PHLX. This was in the fall 1993. He was responsible for hiring and training all floor personnel, monitoring the each market maker’s intra-Day and inter-day risk profile and hedging the PHLX group’s overnight risk. In addition to managing the firm’s floor trading operation, Greg was a market maker in Dell Computer options, one of the busiest equity option in the country. He traded Dell Computer Options In a crowd of 6 to almost 100 market makers, and worked with Ron Ianieri.

Greg’s success with Rockrimmon Securities’ PHLX market makers helped lay the groundwork for the establishment of an Equity Options Specialist unit. After a management split Rockrimmon Securities became JAS Securities, a market-making company, and Gateway Partners, a PHLX Options specialist unit.

JAS Securities’ Partners asked Greg to oversee an off-Floor trading desk opened in late 1999, while the PHLX Floor is still being operated. Trading Unit. He managed the off-Floor staff and qualified an International Securities Exchange DTR.

Greg has enjoyed a remarkable career in the Wholesale Mortgage Business since he left the floor. He was most recently the National Sales Manager at PNC Bank Home equity Partners.

Greg joined Options University In April 2008, Ron Ianieri urged Ron to become Chief FX Strategist. This recommendation was based on his personal experience with Greg as a professional trader.
