Recording the Contemporary Soloists Since our inception, series has been a constant thought in our minds. Sonixinema. It represents everything that we’ve learned in our sampling journey. SonixinemaHis ideals and tastes. After hearing Danny play, and being introduced to him, we knew that we needed to meet up in the studio to start playing the The. Cello.

To capture the rich, delicate tone of Danny’s 19th Century. CelloTo get the right sound, we chose a dry room. Inspired by modern film composers such as Jed Kurzel, Hildur Guðnadóttir and Jóhann Jóhannsson, we wanted to capture not only a very particular tonal quality, but also some very specific articulations which we feel represent the musical landscape that is featured throughout many of our favourite film scores.

While we were able to capture a variety of basic articulations, such as Legato (Sustains), Spiccato (Pizzicato), Tremolo and Col Legno), it was what we did next that truly brought the library to life. Danny and I created a collection of inspiring and unique articulations. Some of these are not available in other sample libraries. These include Arpeggio Crossings (Warped Sustains), Circular Bowings, Harmonic Falls and Harmonic Wavers. These sounds can be used as aleatoric effects and musically. They can be used to create beautiful, dark, soulful environments that enrich scores and give them a unique sound that is not possible with samples.
