It was the worst session of my life…

Before I was able to help develop, in the early years of my professional career. Motivational InterviewingI was given the responsibility of managing a group of young alcoholics. One evening, a patient, who is well-known to my colleagues for his resistance to the group treatment environment, came in and sat at my table. He didn’t say anything.

After the session was over, he went home and shot himself and his wife in front of their two children.

Over the years, I had many questions about how to truly care for my clients. Especially those clients who challenge my skills as a therapist or make me feel like I am failing them. Motivational InterviewingDr. Stephen Rollnick

This six-module video course, you’ll learn step by step from Motivational Interviewing co-Dr. Stephen Rollnick How to improve your communication style and increase client satisfaction. Through lecture, client vignettes, analysis, and discussion, you’ll learn to use a compassionate, curious effort to elicit your client’s own arguments for change.

Module 1: The Foundation & Essence of MI

Through lecture and discussion, you’ll explore the foundations of MI with Dr. Stephen Rollnick. During a video interview, the co-worker asked you questions.-founders of MI, you’ll take an in-Take a deep look at the essential and unique aspects of MI to refine your communication style.

Module 2: MI Framework & Skills

This module is a result of a workshop on MI. It contains stories, lecture, and detailed discussion about the skills involved in MI. You’ll watch commentary featuring MI co-William Miller, Ph.D. founder, and Dr. Rollnick The four main processes of MI are discussed.

Module 3: MI & Mental Health—3 Clients

Through three client vignettes, you’ll explore the heart of Motivational Interviewing. You’ll also take a closer look at how Motivational Interviewing Works in an interview with the co-MI founders: Terri Moyers and William R. Miller Stephen Rollnick.

Module 4: Demonstration, Analysis

This module starts from the pre-Recorded illustration of the four processes, using an unique opportunity given by a former workshop participant. Dr. Rollnick You will be asked to explain a case, then proceed through the session. There will also be breaks for discussion if necessary. You’ll also view interviews with the MI co-Discussing discrepancy with founders and looking for motivation to change.

Module 5: Observing and Practicing MI

This module allows you to see how counselors apply MI in their practice. Each video will include commentary from Dr. Rollnick He will show you how each therapist has infused MI into their practice, personality, and style.

Module 6: Challenges & Opportunities

In the final module, you’ll take a hard look at the signals of discord in clients. You’ll then learn ways to respond with care, not confrontation. Throughout the module, you’ll view simulated client videos featuring the founders of MI working with actors to demonstrate examples of consistent MI use during a session as well as inconsistent use during a session.

About Stephen Rollnick, Ph.D.

Stephen Rollnick, Ph.D., is a former faculty member of the Department of Primary Care & Public Health at Cardiff University, Wales. He was also a long-serving clinical psychologist at the British National Health Service for many years. With a background in the addiction field, his interest turned to consultations about behavior change in wider mental health & healthcare practice, where practitioners try to encourage clients to change their lifestyle and use of medication. Dr. Rollnick’s research and teaching activity is now focused on the behavior of practitioners and other topics. He has taught practitioners across many continents and countries, and has published numerous research papers, articles, and books.

• Co-William R. Miller is the author of several key texts in motivational interviewing including the recently published Motivational Interviewing: Helping people Change, 3rd edition
