Adobe InDesign
Good news, my Internet friend.
I predict that you will fall in love with Adobe. InDesignThat you will put a ring around it by the end this page scroll.
BUT FIRST, A EMBARRASSING STATEMENT.
A client asked me to design a book from cover to cover using Adobe. This was back when I was just starting out as a freelancer. InDesign. I accepted the job but had one problem.
I have never opened anything before. InDesign In my entire life. I have never clicked the little pink icon in my entire life.
This book took me hours to design, page after page. It was my attempt to help others. InDesign As I moved. I had no idea what styles or master pages were — the two most time-Saving features InDesign — and laid out every single page manually, one at a time.
I felt extremely proud that I had finally completed the book.
Only one thing was missing, and I made a terrible rookie error that led to me ruining the entire project.
While I was preparing the file for printing, I accidentally changed ALL of the text to outline. Then, I saved the file and closed it. I panicked. My mistake was obvious, but I didn’t know how to fix it.-It’s possible.
If you don’t realize my mistake, here it is: converting text to outlines makes the text uneditable. Because I accidentally saved my file with the outline text, I wouldn’t be able edit any text in the entire book. All those hours of work were basically thrown out the window.
To make a long story short, I couldn’t find the solution to my problem and ended up hacking through six more editions of this book over the course of the next few decades. I re-evaluated the book.-To change one word, I had to type entire pages manually. It felt so unprofessional to have to explain to a printer what I meant. no, I didn’t have the original, editable file.
I was embarrassed by my silly error and resolved to never make it again. InDesign Take the best of me once again.

Who’s teaching this thing?
Hey-o! I’m Kelsey, the owner + designer behind Paper + Oats, where I teach creatives how to organize, design, and market their digital products so they can share what they know, and look good doing it. I have my InDesign I worked in stripes at a design office where I was hanging around in InDesign all day, er’day – including laying out 20+ published book interiors, averaging 250 pages each… so that’s like 5,000 pages, right?! Whoa, math. After completing the first few projects, my workflow was established. InDesign The publisher can catch fewer errors and reduce duplicate work, which makes projects run more quickly. InDesign It became second nature and I was able to transition into full employment.-Time for self-Without employment, I could not run my business or grow it. InDesign.
I’m also a single mom in Missouri to my pigtail sidekick, Poppy, and our sheep dog, Cooper, forever in search of our next ice cream cone.
