Why should I be concerned?: Tripp’s material is life changing. There’s no other way. It was a discovery that I made. Tripp It was during a very difficult time in my life. I was dealing with a lot bullshit, and needed help to answer some of my questions. Unfortunately, many men are too timid to speak out about their problems. Many will try to hide their issues. This is what I found. Tripp’s site on one of my nights hunt for new material to digest online and I’ve never stopped listening. He covers a WIDE range of topics that appeal to all men, he gives as much great advice as he receives from his guests, he gets answers to the questions we are afraid to ask and he does so with one of the coolest voices I’ve heard on a podcast yet. You can’t help but like him! You should check him out!
So, WHAT HAD TRIPP TO SAY?
Hi, NLG TrippWe are glad you joined us. You give out some awesome advice out on your site and interview leading experts but can you please tell me what advice has really hit home most for you in all the interviews that you’ve done?
TL: Most of us swim in the same pool. And to some degree we’re all trying to prove something — that we’re smart enough, attractive enough, strong enough, manly enough, etc. Many of us aren’t even aware that this need to prove that we’re good enough is driving almost everything we do. It’s exhausting.
It is important to recognize that much of what you see underneath it all is actually quite powerful. “pursuit” is the reality that we’re already good enough just as we are. We’re worthy of love just as we are.
That’s a tough one for many to swallow. It is for me. I need to remind myself daily. “Yes, you can go create X,Y,Z and do this and that but don’t forget that you’re already good enough. This other shit doesn’t define who you truly are.”
It is liberating to live your life without any expectations. Try it once in a while.

NLG: Excellent answer. Men seem to believe they need to do things. ‘complete’ We are already all that we need to right now. What, in your opinion, defines a good life? ‘real man’?
TL: I don’t get into the discussion about what a “real man” is. Unfortunately, most of us look too far beyond ourselves to find direction. It’s natural and to a large extent fear based. “If I don’t fit in, if I don’t appear to be a ‘real man’ then something bad may happen.” The gutsiest thing we can do is to listen to ourselves, to be who we really are — even if that means being rather feminine or going against the grain of what many may judge to be “manly.” That is true strength to me.
NLG: It’s a good idea. Instead of being what others want, listen to your inner voice and become what you truly desire. In today’s age, men face considerably different problems to those that our Grandfathers would have. What do YOU think the greatest problem men have in today’s society?
While at a concert, I saw thousands of people watching the show on their phones while they recorded it. I suspect that only a few people will ever go back to this poor quality video. They missed the chance to be influenced by the music and see the enjoyment of others.
A few rows back of the field, I was at an NFL match a while ago. Amazing seats. There was a young man in front of me sitting down watching *the same game* on his phone. He was missing out on the incredible experience of being in an excited crowd.
In my coaching practice, I work with younger men and they are losing their ability to connect with women. They’re missing the opportunities to learn how to read and interpret the signals women and other people give us.
And I’m guilty of getting sucked into a screen at home instead of playing with my daughter on the phone. My days of playing with my daughter are over. Do I really want my phone to distract me from laughing with her? It’s not.
Again, I’m not anti-tech, but I think it’s sad that more of us are choosing to miss out on the amazing experiences happening all around us. Being checked out can have a negative impact on everything you care about and all that you want. Distractedness can make it difficult to see the real value in our lives.
NLG: I’m guilty of that! We must stop trying to capture life, and live as it happens. Ironically, Social Media has led us to forget how social media can be!
Many people email me to tell me they want to make a change, but don’t know how. ‘just can’t’ due to X, Y or Z. What advice would you offer someone who wants to make a change but isn’t sure how to do it? ‘just can’t’ because of depression or whatever – how can they just ‘let go’ You can be the person you want to become.
TL: I’m not a mental health professional so I won’t speak to depression or mental illness other than to say, if you’re depressed get professional help. What about? “letting go” and being who they are — it’s about baby steps. Clarify one thing you would do if you weren’t afraid or if you didn’t have to prove XYZ. It doesn’t matter how small. Find the smallest step that you can take to get there. This should be done every day. We’ve heard this many times. It’s a cliche because it’s true.
A coach can help you clarify your goals and set realistic expectations. A coach will help clarify what you want and what actions you should take. Then, they will hold you accountable for your actions.
Change can’t be achieved by one idea. Change can be achieved by changing your behavior and choices.
NLG: Your site has a lot of Grade-Many of these interviews I love on my computer. What are your top three favourite interviews? Why?
TL: I loved the “How to Navigate an Woman’s Emotional Minefield” Series with my wife Alyson Schwabe Lanier Christiane Pelmas. It was great to be able to discuss my attraction for other women and my wife in front the mics.

Laird Hamilton was an amazing interviewee. There’s something really rewarding about how an interview may start off with a structured vibe and then start to relax into just a good conversation. This is something I love. This show hasn’t gone live yet. It’ll be up in February. Keep watching.
